Bulldogs Use Strong Second Half to Push Past Foxboro

There is always something special in the air when the the girls of Canton High School’s field hockey team square off against Davenport foe Foxboro. Close games are a regular occurrence with one or two bounces making all the difference.

On Wednesday night things were no different.

The game got off to a relatively slow start with little back and forth action. Senior goalie Riley Brown played well in net for the Bulldogs with 9 saves on the night to keep a strong Warriors offense frustrated.

However, it was Foxboro who found the back of the net first with a laser of a shot fifteen or so yards out to give the Warriors a 1-0 leading heading into halftime.

But the Bulldogs would not go away.

The second half brought out what looked like an inspired group of girls. Good passing and through balls led to some fantastic scoring opportunities for the Bulldogs.

With just under twenty minutes to play, a Canton shot was deflected past the Foxboro goalie and into the back of the net sending the Bulldog sideline into a frenzy. However, the goal was taken off the board due to it coming as a result of a “dangerous play”.

Despite the disappointment of the overturned goal the Bulldogs continued to be resilient and it paid off, as Senior forward Andrea McNeil squeezed one just past the pads of the Foxboro goalie to tie the game at one with just under thirteen minutes to play.

From this point on the momentum was completely in the Bulldogs favor and it was no surprise that just about five minutes later Canton scored what would be the eventual game winning goal off a nice pass by Kaitlyn Goyetch (Soph.) and buried off the stick of Canton forward #33 (Fr.) .

The win was a monumental one for the Bulldogs as they improve to 6-1 (1st place in the Davenport division)  while dropping defending champion Foxboro to 4-2.

DOWN GOES FOXBORO!

What a great effort by the girls field hockey team to battle back and get a HUGE win over a perennial Davenport contender in Foxboro.

It was a very well attended game from the Dog Pound faithful and there was some A+ moments from an A+ game. Let’s give some awards…

Impressions of the game: Doc Emrick NHL calls

Anyone that has ever played the fine video game of NHL knows that no game is complete without a resounding “HE HIT THE POST WITH THE SHOT!” or “A nice lady from Shawinigan comes home with that one”. I didn’t know that Doc would be attending the game but it was great to hear some of his calls in person. (Shout out Tommy DeLello and Charlie Malloy).

Moment of the Game: The Gambler

A couple of the Senior Bulldogs came off a tough night at “Twin” and everyone knows the only way to bounce back after a night like that is a Stoody rendition of Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler”. It was nothing short of majestic.

Dogs win. Stoody was rockin’. NNNN.

P.s- Notice that this blog shows ZERO conflict of interest (see “#33”)
