To me, football is so much about mental toughness, it’s digging deep, it’s doing whatever you need to do to help a team win and that comes in a lot of shapes and forms.
“What number am I holding behind my back?” (1 or 2)
Based on a thorough statistical evaluation of the fact that #2 was held behind the back in game one (when we got Sterned) I had to go with #1. There is a 50/50 chance of picking the right number so if #2 got picked in game one then last night it was guaranteed to be #1. If you disagree you don’t know math. Kudos to me- we deferred to the second half like all great teams.
We had to play a man down for the first drive of the game due to the horrible infraction of wearing shorts with pockets. Needless to say, we were not ready to play out of the gates and were down 13-0 after 2 possessions until we got the spark we needed; a full on form tackle from ‘The Brow’. Was there malicious intent? No. Did it look bad? Yes. Did our sportsmanship grade drop? Absolutely. But all things considered, it was just the spark we needed and Brow made up for it with a TD to make it 13-6 at the half.
We came out a team hungry for a W with Eli catching a TD and extra point to tie it up but after a madden-esque play (the one where you roll all the way out to the right and chuck it across your body) we found ourselves down 19-13 with just two minutes to play. What happened next was a series of events I’ll never forget. A surgical march down the field gave us one last shot at the endzone and Alec came down with it- one second left on the clock. A roughing the passer on the failed XP gave us one last shot and the conversion was good.
‘NNNN’ win! ‘NNNN’ win! ‘NNNN’ win!
Down but never out. The team of grit that just won’t quit. 2-0. Lets go.
P.S- Happy Halloween
